Matt Biffa
Matt started his career in music at the music production company ‘Air Edel,’ where he still works today. He was a receptionist, and the head of production Peter Waygood realised he was very knowledgable about music, so he made Matt start finding material for him. He started finding music for commercials, then moved on to films.
His first actual job as a supervisor was on a film called ‘Bodywork‘ starring Beth Winslet. He continued to work on rather quiet, low pressure films, which was the perfect way to learn. Matt’s recent and most notable work balances smoothly between film and television. He supervised the 1950’s love story starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara ‘Carol,’ where Matt crafted a painfully perfect soundtrack that enhanced the story line and pulled viewers into the time and place where it all took place. Matt very notably supervised ‘Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire, and The Deadly Hallows: Part 1′ where he had to literally dive into the mind of a wizard to create the most magical soundtrack. Matt was also in charge of supervising the adorably iconic ‘Paddington‘ in 2014.
On television, he has partnered up with Netflix and Channel 4 to work on ‘The End Of The F***ing World.‘ A show that was everybody’s favorite when it came out in 2017. The soundtrack Matt curated was ideal for a show that everybody described as ‘American looking, but British feeling.’ Most recently, he was the supervisor for Netflix’s most recent hit ‘Sex Education‘ directed by Ben Taylor and Kate Herron. Matt has described the process of supervising this show as ‘hilarious and challenging process, in equal measures.’ This is, once again, a show that Netflix, with Matt’s brilliant input, created a hybrid ambiance where viewers sometimes feel like they’re watching a scene set in the 80’s in America and the next second they’re in 2019 in the middle of Wales. Matt’s work is always beautifully curated, resourceful, eclectic and just, at the bottom line, exactly what you need.
